Careers in 21st Century Applied Anthropology: Perspectives from Academics and Practitioners

CDO LIBRARY BOOK, SHELF 20 – Applied anthropology is more relevant than ever before in today’s complex and interconnected world. Factors internal and external to the discipline indicate that job opportunities for anthropologists outside the academy will continue to develop in the 21st century. The main objective of the current volume is to explore the potential for this growing trend of anthropological engagement. Thirteen chapters by 15 academics and practitioners provide specific advice to students and practitioners on the benefits and challenges of careers in applied anthropology in both national and international arenas. Contributors offer practical, step-by-step advice on such diverse topics as practicing anthropology with an M.A. degree, careers in national and international consultancy, small consulting business development, executive leadership, combining careers in applied anthropology and the academy, field school training, collaborative research and public engagement, and deploying applied anthropology in nonanthropological settings.
